you cant cover pre existing conditions because then everyone would just wait until they are screwed and sick with cancer to sign up on the plan. costing millions!. if you think it would have been any different with government run health-care you are dumb. the only reason health insurance is messed up right now is because government regulation screwed the system up and made it so companies didn't need to compete with each other and be able to get away with screwing customers.

@pluto4847 Having socialized programs for police, fire, and education benefits EVERYONE, whereas having socialized medicine will benefit the poor and middle class, while having the rich or upper middle class pay. On top of that, police and fire are either local or state programs, and education is a state program. Socialized healthcare would be a federal matter. They're not the same things. Btw, 47% of Americans didn't have to pay income taxes for 2009, so not everyone is contributing.

Very impressive video. Unfortunately it appears most viewers (or at least commenters) put there brains on auto pilot while you entertained them. You made a few good points but then stretched them too far. I.e. "private healthcare is too fat so it needs an overhaul (true) so OBviously the US government should take it over (not true)." Or "private healthcare fears the public option (true) b/c it will be bigger and thus less expensive (not true). The presentation was superb but your observations

The US's big problem is health care and its burden on the economy and the people. If they just nationalized it like the? developed nations it would solve all their problems with medicare, medicaid and people dying because of no health coverage(18,000 per year). 18% of its GDP is spent on health care against less than 10% for developed nations, this makes the US far less competitive and strips labour and capital away from production, which it desperately needs.

Schiff says "it will put the private insurance co.'s out of business", because they can't discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions". Bullshit. Those with no current health issues will pay more in premiums, and those who develop health issues, or who get older, will not see their premiums go out of sight expensive. The end result is that h.c. costs are spread to the largest risk pool, as opposed to being on the backs of the sick & injured. It doesn't increase the actual costs.

I guess as someone who just entered medical school I kind of made a bad choice eh. I mean they can just make doctors slaves to the state and forced to serve people for free or lose their license. I can see it happening now. Not slaves, I mean indentured servants. And of course, when that happens nobody smart will want to be a doctor anymore and we won't have competent doctors since the competition to get into med school will be non-existent. @xander1980 That seems to be a subjective matter. A lot of people aren't happy with socialized health-care systems. I think that, if you end up having good experiences with health-care, you feel positive about it. But it seems that there are a lot of people who aren't being effectively served by socialized health-care, who either can't get seen, can't get diagnosed, or can't see the specialists that they need to. I'd like to have a choice other than the state, or some health insurance co.

@hyylo but atleast it is free, and you can pay to go to a private hospital if you want to, what matters is that you have a choice and that the poor people actually has a fair chance. Last i heard from the social healthcare in UK it worked more than fine, so im surprised to hear your statement. We have free healthcare here in Denmark, so does Sweden and Norway, and i know it works really well...and again, if there is something we don't like about the public hospital then we can go to a private

@xander1980 i live in the UK. social healthcare is terrible. we pay huge tax and we get poor service because we are not allowed to choose which hospital we can go to. the governemnt has conmplete control. costs are increasing each year. It costs more then £100billion each year to run the health system in the UK! if a woman is having a baby the hospital can tell you to go to your local hospital instead of the better cleaner hospital in the city!

i started smokin bud when i was around 12, lookin back i cant remember everything, but i have a mad case of ADD they had me on meds that made me depressed and completely anti-social and all my friends said its like its not even me i started smokin bud and almost immediately my GPA doubled i was paying way better attention and i was happy my attitude completely changed, i find my self to be way more concentrated and social after i smoke a bit

I'm an American and I like a lot of things about this country, but this is ridiculous. More money moves in and out of this country than any other, yet we have the health care system of a 2nd tier industrialized nation. Canada's unemployment rate is usually double that of the US, but they have a population that doesn't feel stifled by the high tax rate there and yet the the government still has enough tax dollars for public health care. Health insurance companies have held us down long enough.

This is a huge problem that the bill that passed congress actually doesn't deal with very effectively, so we'll see whether that puts a strain on the financing of health care. -John

(It also subsidizes some people's insurance coverage, which should actually save the gov't money, because gov't ends up paying for tons of emergency care after bankruptcies and stuff.) Ok now I really like the Vlog Brothers but life is about choices my grandfather has gotten cancer three times and he has health care so hank you could have health care as well you need to dish out some cash but you can get it. Hank you can also get a job in a company that has health insurance because now almost 80% of businesses have health insurance. It?s all about choices and sacrifices. You chose not to work for someone else but it is not like you could not get health care.

Instead of a government option, wouldn't government oversight and regulations on the insurance companies be a better idea? Doctors can deny medicare and medicaid patients so they would be able to do the same with a government program if the reimbursement was just as crappy as those two programs. Instead make it illegal for insurance companies to drop people simply because they get sick, eliminate lifetime caps, stop pre-existing conditions from preventing coverage.

I had UC. Had because I had surgery to remove my bowl. I have access to both public and private healthcare. During the many years I had specialist and doctors visits they were all covered by health insurance. Medication was subbed by the government. When I needed surgery I had the option of private or public. It turned out to go public the wait was the SAME as private. So instead of paying for the same surgeon to do the same op I went public! Oh and my insurance is only $30 a month!

You're right about Fiat being better then Gold standard, but Paul is talking about a competing currency. Whether it be gold vs, silver or gold vs. fiat. If you go back to strictly GS then you are making a huge mistake. Ron Paul understands this, and he's the only candidate that does. You also have to abolish fractional reserve banking.
